SLAVE TRADE THE UNTOLD STORY

SLAVE TRADE IN NIGERIA (THE UNTOLD STORY)🤫

By ✍️ Prisca Ojiobianu

Slave trade in Nigeria lasted between the 16th to the 19th century.

About 12.5million men, women and were put on ship in Africa and 10.7million arrived in the Americas ( www.gilderlehrman.org>historical.....)

SLAVE TRADE is the procuring, transporting and selling of human beings as slave.

Slave trade was not a very pleasant exercise because people had to leave the comfort of their homes to a strange country to work as slaves.

Most of these slave die on transit, why some who got to their destination also died due to undue hardship and suffering in the hands of their slave masters.

The truth remains that the total number of persons that died cannot be ascertain because some died on transit, while some died in a foreign land where thay were not regarded.

THE UNTOLD STORY about slave trade is that despite the fact that slave trade have been abolished,  there are still other forms of slave trade even till today.

 THE SUFFERING/HARDSHIP😥😩

The slaves had to go through the following;

- sexual abuse and rape.

- Denial of Education.

- whippings

- inadequate nutrition.

- unrelenting hard labour.

- illnesses were not adequately treated.

- Slaves were often forced to work even when sick.

THEIR GREATEST FEAR😳

For every slave, one of the greatest fear they face was  seperation from family and friends.

CONCLUSION

As we remember persons sold  as slaves and the abolition of slave trade today,we should be cognizant of the fact that many forms of slave trade still exist.

If we were not there in the 16th and 19th century to do something about slave trade, we can definitely do something NOW!

We should always report when we notice any form of these Modern day Slavery;

-Sex trafficking

-Child trafficking

- Forced labour

- Bonded labour or debt bondage.

- Domestic servitude

- Forced child labour

- Unlawful recruitment and use of child soldier.

When we report any of any the above today! We shall save our Nation from

Modern day SLAVERY.
