"Wow! "She just gave birth".

That is beautiful!

What is the sex of the baby? 

She gave birth to a bouncing baby girl!!

AGAIN?? 

when she go 'born man' and what is bouncing about a baby girl", her belly no dey produce bouncing baby boy?.. and so on and and so forth....

The girl child in Nigeria usually plays second fiddle to their male counterparts. She can not do this; she's a woman; these opportunities  are for males alone.

Am not a Feminist though, but some events just "beats my imagination" even in this 21st century some people still do not regard or respect the women because they feel the men are the superior being, little wonder they're not involved in most of the family deliberations even when it concerns them.

 The men are the head of the family, no one is disputing that, the women on the other hand are expected to submit to their husbands, It only becomes a problem when the man wants to be the  head, the neck, the  the stomach and the leg of the family leaving the women as  bystanders. The women should be given their place in the family.

Some company's renumeration are higher for males even when they are in the same level with the female staff; is this not injustice?

The future they say is women, how can the women take hold of future if they can not play some roles in the present. How can we be leaders of tomorrow if we are not allowed into the corridors of leadership from today?

How do we showcase our intelligence and know-how to the world when we are not even considered as "spare parts".

As the popular mantra goes; "what a man can do a woman can do even better".

 If we are not allowed the opportunity to do it, how do we do it better. I'm not saying the women are faultless and perfect.

We have our own flaws.

Ultimately, we are not dragging equality with men, mbanu! 

We only want to coexist. 

We do not want to be maligned! 

We want equity and fairness and the world will have more cheers than agitations,more smiles than clamours, And more hugs than hates.

We want our voices to be heard.

We do not want to dominate, we only want to impact.

 The "Girlchild" wants to feel free to express herself and compete favourably in today's society. 

We are tired of being relegated to the kitchen and the other room. We are tired of all the humiliations and "name calling", we want to be like the other women in most civilized countries.

 We want to be respected, we want to be treated right.

Alas, this is the new era for the "Girlchild" and we are saying No!! to unfair and unjust treatment because we now know our worth as women. We are not trading it for anything. We are not giving up now on our dreams and aspirations because some persons has set the pace and we are not going down. We are not giving up because when  we look at the likes of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Professor Dora Akunyili, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, Florence lta-Giwa, Margaret Ekpo, Virginia Etiaba, Agbani Darego, Captain Chinyere Onyenaucheya, Folorunsho Alakija, Linda Ikeji, Prisca Ojiobianu and other great women in Nigeria, we believe in our hearts that we can be whatever we want to be.

So when next, you see a "girlchild" in Nigeria, you don't look down on her, rather look up to her because she has more than just being a woman to offer.
